Community Service Grant
The Richard Myles Johnson Foundation champions community-based comprehensive youth financial literacy programs as a force for the development of financially sound consumers. The development of partnerships between credit unions and schools, community centers, and other organizations with special emphases on educating children about the wise use of money establishes collaborative opportunities to promote these ideals.
The Richard Myles Johnson Foundation wants to help credit unions and organizations to develop community-based financial education programs that strengthen families and build stronger communities by leveraging the tremendous talents of professionals within the community. Accomplishing these goals requires a team of individuals who have a passion for positive change, an eye for sound investment, and a wish to leave a legacy of success to future generations.
Recognizing that long-term success requires philosophical backing and financial underwriting, the Foundation has developed its Community Service Grant program. The Foundation will provide the financial support needed to help credit unions and organizations to work more closely within the community to improve the content and structure of financial education offered to “develop financially sound consumers.”
The evaluation process will measure the impact of the most promising financial education program models based on the knowledge provided, skills and practices established. Results will demonstrate a remarkable spirit for continuing the work the Foundation is doing in funding initiatives in financial education, especially areas that:
- Inform with dignity and respect children, parents, and teachers about the wise use of money by developing more age and culturally appropriate programs based in neighborhood centers.
- Create new experiential opportunities for parents and children to learn about the money as a family project.
- Give credit union members/owners personal enrichment opportunities to make their communities a better place to live.
- Benefit the families of members/owners by providing life skills in money management.
- Build more self-sustaining programs while responding to the at-risk youth and families
The Richard Myles Johnson Foundation’s Community Service Grant program has been developed to provide funding for innovative, creative, and risk-taking activities that have a broad impact on financial education in the community. Development must focus on helping people to become fiscally responsible to improve their economic condition.
