RMJ Quarterly Newsletter

Third Quarter 2018

Welcome to the RMJ Foundation Newsletter

We are pleased to present our quarterly newsletter, to keep you updated on the various activities and programs here at the RMJ Foundation. Enjoy!

RMJ/CU Direct Golf Classic

Welcome Golfers photo

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the RMJ / CU Direct Golf Classic Tournament! Everyone had a fun day golfing, networking, and shooting their ball from the air cannon on the course. A special thank you to all our sponsors; because of you we were able to raise more than $75,000 this year! Visit 2018 RMJ Golf Classic to see photos from the day’s events.

Bite of Reality!

We would like to welcome Pasadena Service FCU and Chaffey FCU to the Bite of Reality family. These two credit unions facilitated their first “Bite” this quarter!

The RMJ Foundation recently launched our new BOR2 App. This version gives credit unions the ability to counsel participants on making credit card payments as well as other financial decisions. All merchant prices and persona income were increased to reflect more real-life costs. We updated merchant sheets with real life pictures. There is also now a unique event code for every Bite, so please remember to schedule all BOR events through Jenn at This email address is being protected from spambots. We are proud to announce that the National Credit Union Foundation has offered a Bite of Reality App grant that allows credit unions, state foundations and leagues the opportunity to license the BOR App – bringing this technology to reality fairs across the country.

We had our semi-annual Bite of Reality Facilitators Training / Workshops in August. We discussed the launch of the BOR2 App, reporting events on the NYIB website, and best practices from the folks who know the program best – our credit union facilitators! We also discussed a follow-up program, and how we can continue to grow the Bite of Reality program and its success. RMJ now has 71 credit unions using Bite of Reality, with 98 trained facilitators! If you are interested in delivering a “Bite” to a school or organization in your area, please visit rmjfoundation.org for more information, or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Out and About

In addition to our Bite of Reality Facilitator Workshops and our golf tournament, we’ve had the opportunity to be out and about amongst credit unions and the education community. We were thrilled that Tena was invited to participate in an assessment writing workshop, helping the California State Department of Education to develop a test for one of the career technical education (CTE) pathways. And we had great conversations with economics teachers at the California Council on Economic Education’s Teachers Conference, featuring speakers and content on teaching personal finance in the classroom. Finally, a huge thanks to the Sacramento Valley Chapter for inviting us to participate in its annual CEO/C-Suite Roundtable, where they also raised money for the RMJ Foundation.

Credit Union Train

The Garden Railroad Credit Union Train at the LA County Fair has ended. We had 23 credit unions display their train cars on the track for thousands of fair visitors to see. A special thank you to our sponsors CO-OP, CU Direct, Desert Valleys FCU, SCE FCU, and SchoolsFirst FCU.
